Tell Us Your Story. . . |
|
| What does Black Love mean to you? | |
| Black love means loving our brothers & treating them like the King; especially when they treat us like their Queen, with dignity and respect. | |
The Love of Self |
|
| Who has influenced you the most in life & why? | |
| My Grandmother has influenced me the most. My Grandmother ensured that her husband’s shirts were bright white, with blue, and starched on a weekly basis, to make sure he looked sharp at work on a daily basis. | |
| How do you define holistic health? | |
| I define holistic health as alternative ways of healing sickness, with old-fashioned remedies. My grandmother saturated me with 100% proof rum to assist with a cold or flu and my brother and I always felt better the next day. | |
| Why do you believe holistic health is important for people of color? | |
| Yes, I believe holistic health is important for people of color. We should pass down the home remedies to our children and explain who created them and the results. | |
| What do you love the most in life & why? | |
| I love meeting successful people to serve as mentors for me and for our children. In turn, our children can become successful as well and pass their successes on to future generations. | |
The Love of Family |
|
| Describe how you felt when you either found out you were pregnant or when you saw your child for the very first time. | |
| When I found out I was pregnant the first time, I was single; so I was afraid I would not have the tools to become a successful parent. However, when I saw my daughter for the first time, I felt an emotional reaction to be the best parent I could be, with unconditional love. I also wanted to open doors for my daughter to be the best individual she could be. Chanel has since received her Bachelor’s degree and will soon be promoted to the rank of Master Sergeant in the United States Army Reserves. | |
| What do you believe is the most important attribute a parent can teach a child & why? | |
| I believe the most important attribute a parent can teach their child is to make a goal; then devise a plan of how to achieve their goals. | |
| What does the love of family mean to you? | |
| The love of family means to communicate our ancestor’s achievements; to uphold the legacy for our children. | |
| Please share your thoughts on blended families. | |
| Blended families are very important; despite the break-up of a relationship. Children need to be aware of and know their half brothers and sisters; with no negative thoughts and feelings about situations that happened in the past, which they may not fully understand. | |
The Love of Friends |
|
| Do you believe it’s important to have the love of platonic friends? | |
| Yes, I believe it is important to have the love of platonic friends because they will be honest with you at all times; they will assist you with becoming the best person you can be; and they will help you achieve your dreams and goals. | |
| Can men & women “just be friends?” Why or why not? | |
| Men and women can be friends, as long as they establish clarification about the nature of their relationship. Sometimes mixed messages can be confusing; so just be straight up with each other to prevent misunderstandings. | |
The Love of Your Life |
|
| Tell us how you met your partner. | |
| At the present time, I am not in a committed relationship; but I have met previous mates in stores, at work, or I have been introduced by friends. | |
| Please share your wedding day experience (If Applicable). | |
| My wedding day was magical. I met a wonderful lady who made a dress that I admired from the Ebony magazine. I also went to a Thrift Store and bought 10 bridesmaid’s dresses in peach satin, which was the color of my wedding . I had 10 bridesmaids and 10 groomsmen. | |
| Name some things you love about your partner (or yourself). | |
| I love myself because, as a dedicated person of my word, I am giving my all to achieve success. I also am very resilient when situations in my life get tough. | |
| Share something you’ve learned from your partner. | |
| I have learned from past partners not to give all of myself, unless you have demonstrated respect to the utmost to deserve my kindness. (When I say “kindness,” I mean cooking, cleaning, and offering other services that men are attracted to.) | |
| What is something that has challenged you about your partner (or yourself)? | |
| Communication is key. We have to learn how to communicate with each other for understanding. | |
| What advice would you like to give young couples? | |
| I would give the advice to young couples to focus on their vows and work together as one team. For instance, if they need counseling to move forward in their marriage, that’s exactly what they need to do to have a successful marriage. | |
Conclusion |
|
| What advice do you wish you could have shared with your younger self? | |
| I wish I would have been a pivotal figure over the course of my life, to mentor the younger generation and make a difference more than I have. | |
| Why does Black love matter to you? | |
| Black Love Matters because of the struggles we as a people have had in the past. In our future, we have to rise up, stick together, and be cohesive to assist each other in becoming successful individuals in life. | |
