Well, well, well, look who turned 45 today!?!
Well, well, well, look who turned 45 today!?! (Whoo hooooo! ) Ok SO, what does one do on their “BIG Day,” while quarantined?! After so many days of being remanded to these four walls, with a KrunK 11y/o kid, there’s almost nothing left to do but pray & think…
Of course, some might say thinking is what I do best, while others may say I think a li’l too dayum much! Lol! Admittedly, I consider myself a bit of a “thinker…” a naturally reflective & introspective soul. These attributes became readily apparent to me in High School, when I wrote/edited my very own “advice column” (circa 1989!). And of course, as a woman, I believe I am inherently more in tune with my emotions as a whole. (Perhaps this deadly combination is what caused me to pursue the field of Psychology, where I have an opportunity to reflect, introspect, & emote until my not-so-little heart is content!?)
As my birth month falls on the heels of both “Black History Month” & “Love Month,” I inevitably find myself still a bit pensive as my actual birthday rolls around. This year, as I reflected on the many splendid contributions of our ancestors, coupled with all of the people and causes and…stuff I’ve loved in my lifetime, I found myself feeling a bit revolutionary; yet warm and fuzzy at the same time! (Ha! What a paradox! )
Thinking back over the past 45 years of this amazing, adventurous, roller coaster ride of a life I’ve lived, I ask myself, ‘What kind of mark would I like to leave on this world??’ And, equally important, ‘How can I make this next half my best half?!’
So, after much thought & consternation, I’ve determined that I absolutely CAN be revolutionary & warm & fuzzy at the same dayum time. Matta fact, isn’t that what Black Love is like?! Revolutionary, by virtue of all we’ve been thru as a people; yet a little warm and fuzzy because we remain the nurturers & providers & trendsetters, just like we’ve always been throughout history. We feel. We create. We love…hard. Hell, we go hard! And, that matters. Not only do we, as a people matter; but our love matters. Our Black. Love. Matters.
So, on this special day, as a bit of a revolutionary act, I welcome you to love. Matta fact, I dare you to love. I dare you to hold on to our love as tightly as you can and never let it go. I dare you to commit yourselves to focusing on what really matters. Who we love, what we love, how we love, it all matters. Our love matters. Black. Love. Matters…
Please join me in celebrating not just my special day; but the birth of my new baby, Black Love Matters. Please check out my website, visit the menu, peruse all the pages, & let me know what you think. Also, while we all have a little extra time on our hands, please answer my questions under the “Tell Us Your Story” section of the website.
As a birthday gift to me, I’d love for you to share YOUR Black Love story; keeping in mind that Black Love is not just about romantic love. It’s also about self-love; the love of God; the love of family & friends; “The One(s)” we love; & the love of life, in and of itself. Bottom line, when you really think about it, it’s ALL about Black Love! So, please, tell us why you think Black. Love. Matters!?!
